Fall prevention, eyesight the subject of seminar for seniors

(VIERA, FL)  May 29, 2017 –  Senior Partner In-Home Care at One Senior Place continues its Safe at Home seminar series with a discussion about eyesight and fall prevention for seniors who wish to age successfully at home. Seeing is Believing: Preventing Falls with Better Vision will be presented from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Monday, June 12 at the 8085 Spyglass Hill Road marketplace for senior resources.

Seeing is Believing: Preventing Falls with Better Vision will feature Dr. Hetal D. Vaishnav, M.D from the Eye Institute, who will discuss fall prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and injuries.  The presentation will be focused on strategies and treatment options for seniors living at home.  A question and answer session will follow Dr. Vaishnav’s remarks, along with the door prize presentation and refreshments.

People with vision loss are almost twice as likely to experience multiple falls than those with normal or corrected vision.  According to the CDC (U.S. Center for Disease Control), an estimated 1.3 million persons 65 years and older with severe vision impairment fell in the previous year.  Falls can cause a serious injury such as broken bones or a head injury.  Subsequent fear of falling may cause a person to cut down on their everyday activities and become weaker–thus increasing their chances of falling. Attendees are encouraged to call (321) 751-6771 and RSVP to Seeing is Believing: Preventing Falls with Better Vision to reserve seating.  Door prize and refreshments provided by One Senior Place Care Management.

The Safe at Home series is designed to provide information and resources that will help seniors 70 and above successfully remain at home.  A new topic will be explored the second Monday of each month at 2:00 PM.  For more information about Senior Partner In-Home Care at One Senior Place, visit their website at www.SeniorPartnerCare.com or call (321) 751-6771.

Senior Partner In-Home Care Supervisor, Rachel George explains why the topic of vision and fall prevention is an important one for discussion at One Senior Place.

“Changes to eyesight are often overlooked,” said George.  “Paying attention to one’s eyesight changes coupled with proper safety measures in the home can minimize falls and increase safety in the home.”
